MEET THE ASSIST CO. FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR; MATTHEW THOMAS - a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years’ experience helping businesses navigate the intersection of purpose and performance.

Throughout my career, I’ve worn many hats: CFO, Director, Consultant, Board Member, volunteer, and team player (on the court and in business). I’ve led finance and operations in industries ranging from architecture and design, a luxury safari company, health and fitness, an accounting firm and not-for-profits, working closely with founders, creatives, and changemakers to turn complexity into clarity.

As a former Director and co-owner of Australia’s oldest architectural practice, I know what it’s like to run a business that’s both deeply creative and commercially complex. I’ve also served as a non-executive Director in the community sector, and a contributor to national industry bodies. Across all of it, I’ve built a reputation for being hands-on, strategic, and grounded in real-world experience.

I’m not just about spreadsheets and strategy. I’m a basketball player, a dad, and someone who genuinely enjoys helping people play to their strengths. That human element, connecting with owners, understanding their goals, and helping their teams thrive, is what drives me.
